# Speakband

> Speakband is an Android app for practising the IELTS Speaking test. You speak
> an answer to a real exam-style question, and an AI examiner returns a band
> estimate plus written feedback on what to fix — in seconds, without booking a
> tutor.

Speakband: IELTS Speaking AI is published on Google Play (package
`com.speakband.app`) by swizzy. It has been publicly available since
2026-08-20. It is not affiliated with the British Council, IDP, or Cambridge
Assessment English, and the band scores it produces are practice estimates,
not official IELTS results.

## What it does

- Practises all three parts of IELTS Speaking: Part 1 (interview), Part 2 (cue
  card with a one-minute prep and a long turn), Part 3 (discussion).
- Accepts a spoken answer — hold the phone and talk — or typed text.
- Returns a band estimate per criterion with a written explanation, the single
  highest-leverage fix, and a rewritten Band 8 version of the same answer so the
  difference is visible.
- Tracks a band trend across sessions and points at the weakest criterion.
- Conversation mode: a spoken back-and-forth with no marks, three turns per
  check, open on every plan.
- Paid plans can turn two pages of your own PDF into practice questions.

## How it scores

Three criteria are graded from the transcript by Anthropic's Claude models:
Fluency & Coherence, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range & Accuracy.
Pronunciation cannot be judged from a transcript, so it is assessed separately
from the recorded audio on paid plans. Free-plan answers therefore carry a
three-criterion breakdown; paid plans carry all four.

## Who it is for

Candidates preparing for IELTS Academic or General Training who need repeated
speaking practice and immediate correction. It is most useful to learners who
have no access to an examiner or tutor, or who want more attempts than tutoring
budget allows.

## Pricing

Billing runs through Google Play; Speakband never handles card details.
Quotas are per calendar month in the user's own timezone and do not expire
daily. A full mock test is roughly ten answers.

Prices are in US dollars; Google Play shows local-currency prices in other
countries.

- Free — 1 AI check, no card required.
- Basic — $4.99/month or $39.99/year — 150 checks/month (~15 mock tests).
- Pro — $9.99/month or $79.99/year — 250 checks/month (~25 mock tests),
  stronger model on Part 3.
- Premium — $19.99/month or $159.99/year — 300 checks/month (~30 mock tests),
  strongest model on all parts, natural-voice audio.
- Annual plans cost eight months for twelve (33% off in US dollars).

## Requirements

Android 8.0 or later. Microphone permission for spoken answers. An internet
connection is required — evaluation happens on the server.
